Breeder Biz Advisor is run by Kessler Accounting Tax Advisory Group. We have started a Community full of resources for breeders for the business and operational side of breeding. We have document templates such as Business Plans, Litter Record Summaries where you can track all the buyer information as well as health record for the litter and capture all the sales and expenses specific for that litter. In addition, I have developed an accounting workbook that can be used at tax time to capture all your income and expenses relating to your kennel or cattery. And there are TONS more resources and guidance about licensing, sales tax, and just sharing and venting with other breeders about the day to day life of pet breeders.
Tax Planning/Compliance
Understand your tax
obligations, plan ahead for quarterly payments, identify every deduction available to your breeding business (from vet costs to kennel expenses), and keep you fully compliant with federal and state requirements. Filing season becomes a non-event — because you’ve been planning for it all year. Clean books make tax prep faster, decisions easier, and audits
stress-free.
Profitability & Cash Flow
Breeding is a passion, but it needs to be a
sustainable business too. You get templates to track your income and expenses by litter, analyze your pricing against your real costs, and give you a clear picture of where your money is going — and how to keep more of it. This will help you build a financial model that turns your breeding program into a predictably profitable operation. There is also a bookkeeping template to track all income and expenses and shows exactly where it should go on your tax return.
Business Structure Strategy
Are you operating as a sole proprietor, LLC, or S-Corp — and does that structure actually make sense for your situation? We’ll evaluate your current setup and recommend the right entity structure to protect your personal assets, minimize your tax burden, and position your breeding business for long-term growth. Getting this right early can save thousands of dollars
annually.
Record Keeping Systems
Good records are the foundation of a good
business. We’ll help you set up simple, organized systems for tracking litter expenses, deposits, waitlists, contracts, and income — whether that’s QuickBooks, a breeder-specific CRM, or a streamlined spreadsheet workflow. In addition to taxes, stay compliant with local licensing requirements. Each state has their own requirements in addition to USDA.
Breeder Business Consulting
Sometimes you just need a trusted advisor to think through a big decision with. Whether you’re considering adding a new breed, evaluating a kennel expansion, setting your puppy pricing, building a waitlist policy, or planning for the future of your program, we bring both the financial expertise and the breeder’s perspective
to help you move forward with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Breeder Biz Advisor?
A membership community started by the owner of Kessler Accounting & Tax Advisory. A Missouri CPA firm owner specializing in pet breeders who also owned a successful Maine Coon cattery herself.
What is included in the membership cost?
Access to all the templates and documents created specifically for dog and cat breeders to use in their breeding program. Monthly calls and virtual meet ups to get specific tax or operating questions answered by a CPA who knows the nuances of breeding and breeding programs.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yep! You can cancel at any time. However, we do update content frequently to keep up with changing tax laws and regulations, but you get to keep whatever templates and documents you downloaded while you were a member.
Is this tax deductible?
Very possibly yes! This community would generally be considered educational and a resource for operations programs such as accounting records and litter records. If however, your program is considered a hobby, the cost would not be tax deductible, but you will still get very valuable information!

Hi! I am Erica Kessler, owner Kessler Accounting & Tax Advisory
Over seven years ago, I started a Maine Coon breeding program that ended up being the number one program in Missouri. I do also have a CPA practice, so I had the luxury of knowing taxes and how they fit into the program. I learned from many clients who were also dog breeders that taxes are a mystery to those not familiar. I found my time was getting consumed by answering “quick questions” from other breeders. So I decided to start a community where dog breeders and cat breeders can come together and discuss day to day operations as well get tax questions answered from a reliable source. I also wanted to have a space to educate breeders so they can avoid possible large unexpected tax bills. Maybe an entity can be restructured to save on taxes, or action taken to plan and minimize the tax amount before it even came due.
I found the most efficient and economical way to reach as many breeders as possible to start an online community. In this way, breeders can come and learn on their own schedule at an affordable rate. Thus Breeder Biz Advisor was developed.
If you are unsure if you want to join the Breeder Biz Advisor community yet, I encourage you to sign up for the newsletter. You will get a taste of information that can be found in the community and get a summary of all content Breeder Biz Advisor posted the prior week to our website, social media, etc.
